John
Gresser was born in 1920 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. He was transferred to
St. Petersburg, Florida in 1958. In the years before he retired from 35
years with Honeywell, as a production Engineer, John had 2 hobbies,
painting seascapes and fishing. During that time, he also became
interested in woodcarving. At that time he carved ducks and other birds
and small animals. Because his first love was fishing, John decided to
specialize in fish. His hand painting the fish made them that much more
realistic.
Over
the years, John has instructed many woodcarving classes and has many
accolades and best-of-show awards from art shows he has attended.
John
has added many different species in the past 12 years. His regular
inventory has over 50 species of fish. He can carve a special order from
any clear color picture. All of his fish are all his original carvings.
The hobby has become a business. Orders have come from all over the U.S.
from the many visitors to various Florida art shows. It is John’s hope
that his fish will replace prized catches that are released back into
the wild and can be a reminder of that special fishing trip for his
customers. John is a fisherman, creating art for other fishermen.
